Rise Up New Chicago Programs
Phase I
Phase II
Mobile Grocery Bags

Once a thriving, self-sufficient community, the New Chicago community had several places to shop within walking distance. Due to limited public transportation and retail options in the community, Rise Up New Chicago Association identified a need in our community. Rise Up New Chicago Association implemented Mobile Grocery Bags in phase I of their Outreach Programs. Mobile Grocery Bags provide 15 senior and qualified neighbors with monthly bags of groceries via delivery or pickup. If you would like to apply for Mobile Grocery Bags please click below.
Back to School Drive

Rise Up New Chicago Association has supplied over 150 backpacks and school supplies for the 2024-2025 school year. Back to School Supply Drive was a success due to funding from the organization and donated supplies. Families in the New Chicago community are always welcomed to receive supplies. Supplies, backpacks, uniforms, etc are accepted year round at 1083 Capital Ave., Memphis Tn 38107. If you would like to donate or volunteer please contact Chris Hall at 901-604-4340 or email riseupnewchicago@gmail.com.
Oldies but Goodies

Whether racing on foot, peddling a bike at the speed of light, or walking with your friends one thing was for sure! There was always a FREE lunch waiting at the park during the summer time. Those lunches were filled with all kinds of delicious GOODIES. As fun and nostalgic as it was, it also satisfied a nutritional necessity for some. During the summer when school cafeterias closed some of the children were in jeopardy of losing a meal per day. For some their parents were at work unable to prepare lunch and for other families additional food was not in the budget. Thanks to Rise Up New Chicago Association for LUNCHING (launching) the OLDIES but GOODIES program in Phase I aimed to bring back FREE summer lunch for the New Chicago community.
Tree Dedication

Our 19th Annual Tree Planting Ceremony on March 2, 2024 volunteers of all ages planted over 1,000 native trees. These young trees were planted along Leath Bayou in New Chicago Park, providing a needed riparian buffer in the floodplain. While restoring the natural beauty Rise Up New Chicago Association dedicated trees as part of the Phase II program. The Tree Dedication was in loving memory of our New Chicago neighbors and community leaders. Families gathered to commemorate and select a special tree for each honoree. An expansion of this program includes installing benches for visitors. We have a few more trees available for dedication. If you would like to submit a New Chicago resident to honor please click below to contact Chris Hall.
Tiger Football

As part of the Rise Up New Chicago Association Phase II plans our after-school program is currently adding Rise Up Tigers Football Team. After-school programs are essential in most communities due to the lack of support and/or guidance during after school hours. Our organization aims to meet the needs of the community. Some needs are requested and some needs are from observation. The Founder & CEO of Rise Up New Chicago Association observed children tossing a football in the community. After researching it was clear that an after-school sports team would be a great addition to our community.
Community Garden

New Chicago as we mentioned in Phase I programs was a self-sufficient community. In addition to gas stations, drug stores, factories, and other businesses neighborhood farmers was a pilar to our community. These proud farmers provided vegetables, fruit and herbs to the community from the very soil of this community. Phase II of Rise Up New Chicago Association is to committed to cultivating a Community Garden. The New Chicago Community Garden will empower the community with the resources needed to provide an alternative to rising prices and access to healthier produce. The Community Garden will also provide an opportunity to strengthen community, build team work and restore pride in our natural resources. Stay tuned... COMING SOON!
